Breastfeeding Blues?

A lactation consultant is here to help

As mothers know, breastfeeding is not as easy as it looks — at least in the beginning. A lactation consultant is trained to teach you how to feed your baby.  Among the assistance she provides is helping   with the baby’s latching difficulties, painful nursing, low milk production or inadequate weight gain.

“While breastfeeding is natural, it can also be challenging at first,” says Registered Nurse Anna Edgar, a Lactation Consultation at the Jarrett Family Blessed Beginnings Birthing Center. “Some mothers plan to do it but encounter a few problems, which often can be overcome.”

Edgar is familiar with breastfeeding equipment such as breast pumps and other supplies that are helpful to breastfeeding mothers and infants. She can help you to feed your baby according to your preferences.

Lactation consultants are relatively new members of the healthcare profession. There are currently thousands of International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC) around the world. Edgar is proud to be one of three IBCLC-certified on staff at Blessed Beginnings.

“It gives me great joy to help mothers in this exciting time of life,” she says. “I want to be there as their teacher and counselor.”
